When November 11th arrives you can make good use of our free collection of printable Remembrance Day Colouring Pages to help pay tribute to all the brave men and women who have died while doing their duty. Also known as ‘Poppy Day’ and ‘Armistice Day’, November 11th has been a memorial day for Commonwealth countries since the end of World War One. Our free printable Remembrance Day colouring sheets feature lots of images of poppies because the ‘remembrance poppy’ is a common emblem for this day due to the poem “In Flanders Fields”.
We’ve incorporated some of the words from that famous war poem into the image on our Flanders Fields colouring page. Our free set of World War 2 Plane Images may help your history studies too.
Colouring Sheet of Remembrance Crosses
This free printable Poppy Day colouring sheet shows wooden crosses with ‘remembrance poppies’ which are common across the UK around November time. They are frequently stuck into the ground in cemeteries and around war memorials so that we do not forget the great sacrifice that so many men and women have made …. not just in World War One and World War Two but also in more recent conflicts. They’re also known as the ‘Little Remembrance Cross’.
Colouring Sheet of Poppies in Flanders Fields
The name ‘John McCrae’ may not be familiar to you but in 1915 he wrote one of the most famous war poems of all time … “In Flanders Fields”. His inspiration was the funeral of a fellow soldier and friend who had lost his life in the Second Battle of Ypres (in Belgium’s Flanders region).
This Poppy Day colouring page has plenty of flowers in the foreground and background to create a colourful image …. use on its own or maybe incorporate into worksheets.
Colouring Sheet of London Cenotaph War Memorial
At 11am on Remembrance Sunday the whole of the UK recognises a two-minute silence, with many people either attending The National Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph in London or watching the event on the TV. During the service a wreath is laid by the Queen, Members of Parliament, representatives of the armed forces, representatives of Commonwealth countries, etc.
We have not drawn any images of poppy wreaths on this printable Remembrance Day colouring page so that you can draw on your own colourful display … there are lots of Poppy Day images on the internet to help with ideas.
Colouring Sheet of a Veteran with Medals
All around the cenotaph at The National Service of Remembrance (as mentioned above) you will see war veterans proudly wearing their medals alongside a poppy.
UK visitors to this site might be a bit confused about the difference between ‘Veterans Day’ and ‘Memorial Day’ which are both celebrated annually in America. USA’s Veterans Day (once known as Armistice Day) is a federal holiday on 11th November which honors the service of America’s military veterans ….. Memorial Day takes place on the last Monday of May and remembers those who have died.
