Looks like the time has finally come for us to be a bit more grown up! For the first 10 years of www.free-for-kids.com we were solely focussed on producing content for kids and teenagers but we think we’ve been ‘missing a trick’ by not extending our subject matter into the curious world of adults and parents. As always we have a lot to say about – well – everything really and this new avenue will let us explore products, knowledge, experiences and services that we think will bring many benefits to our older visitors.
In particular we’ve been itching to share our thoughts, opinions and experience on household products so we are pleased to offer you the beginnings of a product review page which will only feature products we have genuinely used for a sensible amount of time. No sponsoring. No fakery. No hidden agendas. We’ll have the photographs, broken parts and cat-related stories to assist you with your own buying decisions. To kick things off we’ve written a long term honest review of a Dyson Cyclone V10 Cordless Vacuum which describes the many ups and downs of V10 cordless ownership. We’re also mad about a decent coffee from a decent cafetiere … and we’ve found one. Great brew, great review for the Andrew James Cafetiere in Stainless Steel (1000ml). Got a cat? … after three years of hassle-free operation we are happy to give the SureFlap Cat Flap with Microchip Detection a solid 5 Star review. Gone are the days of dangly magnets on cat collars that disappear every three weeks. Finally, in a brave attempt at starting a ‘Sound and Vision’ section we’ve reviewed ‘Fever Dream‘ by Of Monsters and Men. You may already know that ‘My Head is an Animal’ and ‘Beneath the Skin’ were amazing albums and it’s been a long wait for their third album.
We’ll share some technical advice too. If you are having a few technical Problems Connecting a TP-LINK WiFi Repeater then we might have some useful advice to help you to finally boost your WiFi. We also have a suggestion for a possible workaround if you’re desperate to know How To Clear A Spotify Play Queue and we also may be able to help with Canon and Epson printer problems surrounding the annoying error message that Another Computer is using the Printer …. when it isn’t! Most recently we’ve put together some helpful instructions on what to do if your phone won’t download apps using mobile data.
We have created hundreds of kids’ quizzes so the time has come for us to make a start on quizzes for adults which you can use for family gatherings, parties, pub quizzes, office fundraisers or whatever! For those of you (us) that were teenagers in the 1980s our first creations involve song lyric quizzes for the 1980s and we’ve already covered 1984 song lyrics and 1985 song lyrics just to get things started. When we’re bored with those we’ll revert back to our speciality – general knowledge quizzes – which we’ll continue to create in multi-choice format so that they can help you run quiz events for a broad range of knowledge.
We love getting out and about so another area of focus will be the great outdoors. We’re equally happy pottering in the garden as exploring forests or stately homes so expect a diverse range of articles, tutorials and shared experiences. For starters, when garden space is limited or even non-existent then you need to start improvising. We’d been asked a few times for advice on how to grow a pumpkin in a grow bag so we did it, photographed it, and then shared our advice and experiences. Perfect for a patio or even a school playground or kindergarten yard, pumpkins are great fun to grow and amazing to watch as they get bigger and bigger ready for Halloween. Also, how are your weeds? There’s generally some confusion over Rosebay Willowherb. It’s a beautiful flowering plant that fills verges and wild spaces with vibrant pinky-purple flowers during the summer months which do not look dissimilar to a plant that you might pay for in a garden centre. But do you want Willowherb in your garden … probably not … so we have investigated the question ‘is Rosebay Willowherb a weed?‘.
We would appreciate your suggestions for printable disability resources and related content. This is an area which we would like to focus on through 2021 and 2022 with a view towards building up a helpful library of free resources to help kids, parents, teachers and carers. We know how much kids with special needs vary in their skills, knowledge, competencies and understanding but it’s difficult for us to gauge exactly where to direct our efforts. There are countless free resources for kids with extra needs all over the internet so we don’t want to duplicate what you already have at your disposal. Let us know what would help and we’ll do our very best to oblige.
Hidden away deep down here in the darkest depths of the shadowlands is a link to our odds and ends page which is where we dump anything and everything that’s too old, too young, or just stuck in limbo. Don’t take a trip there … we’re not especially proud of it.
